Kamal Nath meets Japanese delegation from Kansai province"

 

'New Delhi, December 6, 2005. Mr. Kamal Nath , Commerce & Industry Minister met a 15 member business delegation from Kansai province of Japan. The Kansai province is one of the most industrialised regions in Japan with substantial economic links with India. Mr. Masayuki Matsushita , Vice Chairman, Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd., Japan was the leader of the delegation. The delegation expressed strong interest in the Indian economy. Detailed discussions were held on the subject of Indian economy, Indo Japan Investment Cooperation and the outcome of Joint Study Group leading to Economic Partnership Agreement with Japan. The delegation expressed their preference for sharp reduction in tariffs and clear definition of country of origin in the EPA. The Ambassador of Japan to India and the delegates expressed their desire to strrengthen working relationship with the Japan Cell set up in the Ministry for facilitating Japanese investment. The Commerce & Industry Minister invited Japanese investments in infrastructure and other sectors. Dr. Ajay Dua, Secretary, Industrial Policy & Promotion presented the current scene on FDI Policy and Indian economy.Shri R.  Khullar, Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce informed the delegates about the progress made in the Joint Study Group. Agreeing with the delegates, he hoped for early conclusion of the EPA. He also listed India's economic engagement in bilateral agreements with other countries.

The delegates represented a wide cross section of Industry and service including electrical and electronics, trading, air port, banks, chemicals, etc. The major companies represented in the delegation include Matsushita, Sumitomo, Sanyo, Marubani, Kansai Airport, Mitsubishi, Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Matsushita, Itochu.
